Five Loaves and Two Fish

Five Loaves and Two Fish

“And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. He said, Bring them hither to me. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.” (Matth. 14:15-21)

Today, Jesus’ priority is no longer necessarily to satisfy people with physical food, but to satisfy them spiritually through His Word.

This is also necessary, for especially in this day and age, the world has distanced itself from God to an extent rarely seen before.

People believe in progress, science, and technology; in self-confidence and humanism. If that is the solution, why are conditions today closer to Sodom and Gomorrah than to paradise? Because humanity has rejected God—that is why!

We are clearly in the so-called “end times,” but people can still be saved from eternal damnation in hell, and Jesus wants to involve us in this work. Jesus says: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest!” It should be clear to everyone that this is about pitching in with the “harvest” and not about praying that others will do the work! That would be more than reprehensible.

Let’s listen to Jesus’ words regarding the “last days”.

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”(Matth. 24:3-14)

To put it plainly: “The gospel of the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, and then the end will come!”

What end? The end of the world? No, the end of Satan’s rule over this world! When the message of the Kingdom of God has been preached throughout the world, so that every nation and every tribe has heard the message of the cross of Christ, then Jesus will return and take dominion over the planet. Then Jerusalem will be the capital of the world; so it is written, and so it will come to pass.

In the Bible and in Christianity, the eschatological return of Jesus Christ, adventus Domini (Latin for “coming of the Lord”), is referred to as the Parousia. The word parousía appears 24 times in the New Testament Greek writings.

Once I understood this, I joined the Lord Jesus’ mission and began doing missionary work. Since I couldn’t preach at all back then, I simply burned good sermons onto CDs and gave them away. That was my first missionary activity, everything else grew out of that.

And because I wasn’t the only one who lacked proper guidance, I decided to delve deeper into this topic. So in the coming days, we’ll essentially be focusing on a guide to missionary work for everyone, explaining in a fundamental yet engaging way how the average Christian can do missionary work on their own in a simple manner.

Back to the beginning of today’s topic: What does Jesus Christ need to feed 5,000 people? Your five loaves and your two fish—so don’t keep Jesus waiting any longer, because the time of open doors is running out.

“We must do the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:4)

Jesus said, “I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19), and the coming weeks are meant to help you “cast your nets properly.”

May God bless you as you do so. Amen.
