Jesus is God

The word astro against an illustration of planets and stars.

Jesus is God, do you know that?

“Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.” (Romans 9:5)

During my life, I have seen many Christians having a problem with the Trinity of God, and even I was confused about who to pray to, and who is who, when I was a young Christian. The Bible seems to be difficult to understand on this point, but I want to share with you some topics, that may be helpful to simplify this issue.

How can we understand that there is only one God, but 3 persons? (God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit)

Remember that God said in the beginning, “Let us (us = more than one) make man in our image.” We don’t look exactly like God, but the concept that body, mind and spirit together make a person, one person, is a picture of the Trinity in the most general sense. There are 3 different aspects, but one person. (Genesis 1:26)

It is very important to understand that “Jesus is God” !!! (John 10:30)

Let us listen to the words of the prophet Isaiah concerning the Messiah: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” ( Isaiah 9:6)

Is this a description of a man, or an angel? No, Isaiah is talking about God. For example, Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that Jesus is not God because they have a problem understanding the Trinity. Muslims and Jews have the same problem, because they claim that there is only one God, and that is true, but God is a Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

“Yahid or Echat”? Jews and Muslims claim that Deuteronomy 6:4 is proof that Jesus is not God: “Sh’ma Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad.” This means “Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.”

The Arabs may not know about this, but the Jews should know that the word “One” in this text is ‘Echat’, not “Yahid”! “Echat” means “one unity”.

A unity is a union of several individuals, in this case the unity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. “Yahid” really and only means ‘one’, but the word used in the original Jewish text is “Echat”, which speaks of a unity!

Christians do not say that there are several gods, but God is a unity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, just as I am a unity of spirit, soul and body. I want to show especially to the Muslim and Jewish people how God appeared at Abraham’s tent and maybe it will shock them, because God appeared there in the form of 3 persons.

“And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them , he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.” (Genesis 18:1-5)

Jesus Christ is not a second-class person, he and the Father are equal! They are both God, just as the Holy Spirit is also God. Jesus is the creator of you, me and everything visible and invisible!

Let’s read John chapter 1:1-14. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  (John 1:1-14)

Do you see that Jesus is the Creator? This verse makes it very clear. Jesus is not a created being or an angel, but the Creator of the universe Himself. He is the Alpha and Omega, He is the beginning and the end. He is the great “I am” He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the One who holds the keys to heaven and hell in His hands. (Apocalypse 22:13-21 / Exodus 3:14 / John 6:35 / John 8:12 / John 10:7-9 / John 10:11-14 / John 11:25 / John 14:6 / John 15:1 / Apocalypse 1:18)

After God sent his prophets, he himself became human flesh and walked on this planet wich he created, to give the world a final testimony before he will finally judge the world. (John 5:22)

Jesus is the one who will cast the devil and the demonic powers and all his enemies into hell! (John 5:22 / Apocalypse 20:7-15)

He gives eternal life to those who walk with him, and he is the one who makes all things new, so it should be clear that he is God. (Romans 8:1 / Apocalypse 21:5-8)

He is the Creator Himself and part of the Trinity of God, so He is God! Now the question arises as to whom we should pray to. First of all, there is not a single reference in the Bible to anyone praying to the Holy Spirit or being commanded to do so! Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did not. The prophets did not, Jesus did not, the apostles did not and the disciples did not, so there is not a shred of evidence that we should do this! What about praying to the Father? Jesus taught his disciples in prayer to ask the Father in Jesus’ name, so it is okay to do so. (John 16:23)

At this point I would like to make it 100% clear that praying to anyone or anything other than God the Father or Jesus is deepest paganism and idolatry! Praying to angels, to Mary, to the apostles, to other “so-called holy people”, Baal, Astarte, Jupiter, Thor, Allah, a dead family member, an Indian cow, or whatever is strictly forbidden by God YHWH!

These are all not gods or qualified to represent God or speak to him for us, as some teachings say. They are all not “omnipresent” and can not hear your prayers! In fact, doing so attracts the attention of demonic forces who love to take the opportunity to appear as the one being asked for. They mask themselves and can now influence your life. The Bible is clear that this is against God’s commandments/instructions, and to Him it is not only a sin but an abomination. (Acts 10:25-26 / Acts 14:13-14)

Is it okay to pray to Jesus?

That is even my first choice and what I do, because he is the one who died for me and who promised that he will always be with me until the end of days (through the Holy Spirit) and he will even be my “bridegroom” (spiritual) for all eternity, so I pray and talk to him personally! (Apocalypse 19:7)

The disciples worshipped Jesus and he received it and did not rebuke them as the angel did in the Apocalypse of John when John wanted to start worshipping him. ##(Apocalypse 19:10 / Matthew. 2:11 / Matthew 28:9 / John 20:28)

I would like to show you another proof that Jesus is God. Let’s look at the worship of the “Lamb” in heaven in Revelation 5:6-14.

“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.” (Revelation 5:6-14)

Now comes an interesting question: “Why did Jesus pray and ask the Father for things, if he himself is God?”

When Jesus became man, the 2nd part of the Trinity left His heavenly power and glory, so He had to ask the Father, the 1st part of the Trinity who remained in heaven, for the supernatural and the Holy Spirit delivered to Jesus. Jesus in his flesh was like every other man on earth, only without sin and with “some special kind of blood”. His supernatural power came from God in heaven, worked by the Holy Spirit, to perform miracles, just as we ask God in heaven for miracles today and the Holy Spirit performs them, or sometimes doesn’t, because He is the Sovereign.

Jesus walked in perfect relationship with the Father, he lived continuously in the power of the Holy Spirit in a way that none of us can. Just as it is okay to pray to God the Father and to the Lord Jesus, I want to point out a problem that can arise when you only talk to people about “God” and not explicitly about Jesus.

The word “God” has many faces in this world and in almost every culture the word “God” means something different. When we Christians talk about “God” we talk about YHWH, the Creator, the God of Abraham Issac and Jacob, the founder of Israel, but for others God is Allah, Manitou, Thor, “the Force”, a cow in India or whatever and so serious misunderstandings can occur if we don’t say “Jesus”!

Because of this problem I have decided to only talk about Jesus and so no misunderstandings will arise because everyone will understand who I am talking about.

I know this is a very difficult subject and it has taken me years to understand it, but I hope my little discourse will help you to get this into your heart. Pray about this subject and study the Bible verses I have given you so that you can get assurance about it.
